A Message from Our New Owner

| posted by Fast Company staff

In today's New York Times, there's a full-page ad with a message from the new owner of Fast Company magazine, Joe Mansueto. Here's what he has to say about why he bought the magazine, along with Inc., from G&J USA, and what he plans to do with them.

"Of course these magazines are an investment for me. But if that's all they were, I would never have written a check." -- Joe Mansueto, CEO, Morningstar

I wasn't looking to buy a magazine. Or two, for that matter. (Being CEO of Morningstar is a full-time job, thank you). But when Fast Company and Inc. came up for sale, I jumped at the opportunity. I bought them because I'm passionate about their missions. Their past, present, and future contributions. And the true intimacy they've established with their readers -- along with the enduring value that brings to advertisers.

These are two powerful brands. Fast Company is the magazine for people who are passionate about their work and want to do it better. It serves up cutting-edge ideas, insights, and tools to help its readers innovate and succeed. And I've read Fast Company since its beginning ten years ago.

Inc. is the sacred text of the American entrepreneur, the dreamers, doers and dazzlers who represent our economy at its most vibrant and resourceful. When I was building the Morningstar business from a fragile start-up, Inc. was an invaluable resource.

I have promised the two magazine teams they will have all the resources required to build their great brands. So if you're a reader, I pledge the very best thinking, writing and design -- springing from an electric and creative environment.

If you're an advertiser, you should know that Im in this for the long haul and that I'm serious about excellence in every dimension of our business. For me that means, first and foremost, serving your needs as customers.

These are magazines I believe in, respect deeply, and want to see succeed at an even higher level. I invite readers and advertisers to join us on this adventure.

I applaud Mr. Mansueto for his insight and respect he has for the magazines, the people that work for these fine publications, the advertisers and finally to us the readers. Thanks for keeping 2 great magazines going.

I couldn't have said it better myself: Fast Company IS the magazine for people who are passionate about their work and want to do it better. That is the reason I have been reading FC and subscribing to the emails for the past 5 years! Best wishes to you all. And thank you Mr. Mansueto for keeping these great publications around.

These 2 magazines form the corner stones of my continuous learning in the corporate world. I can only assume that only great things will result from their combined purchase by Mr. Mansueto. I hope they will continue to keep their distinct, individual identities and continue to provide us readers invaluable insights into the complex world of business . I also hope they will be more widely circulated in this part of the world.

I am sure that the acquisition and the well articulated vision by Mr. Mansueto was a great relief to the staff, as it certainly was for me and I am sure other readers. Thanks to Mr. Mansueto and incredibly dedicated, and skilled staff, we can continue to keep hope alive! Way to go!

Bill Ryan Free: I had sent an employee/staff of Inc. some proposals of R&D of some new products of My concepts and designs about a year ago, and sent some, but got no reply...I was looking for a partnering relationship of some kind, ...these are new products of various kinds and categories. But I received no replies, nor the return of those. I said that those products, and any firm created to develop and market them, could be enhanced with articles in the magazine. And that would also boost the magazine. Here, I am also reiterating. Thank You; Sincerely, Bill Ryan Free. - Also this: A lot of sites have a post or send button, but few will have a sign appear saying sent, when clicked on, and that is why when not present, the same messages can often be sent many times. E-mail Me, O.K.? I have copies of all that I sent that person at Inc.
