Keeping the Dream Alive

| posted by Fast Company staff

Today marks the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington.

King was a reflection of all that is possible through strong, compassionate, and dedicated leadership. Few and far between are the leaders who managed to mobilize the entire country to fight against an ongoing injustice.

King's legacy lives on to this day with the I Have a Dream Foundation, which works to help children in low-income areas reach educational and career goals through mentoring and tutoring.

I will never give up on Dr. King's dream. I'm sure there are groups everywhere pushing for diversity. The group I'm in is the Society of Marketing Professional Services Diversity Task Force www.smps.org/interestgroups/diversityhold.htm I'm interested in diversity programs that other professional organizations have put into place.

Martin Luther King's eldest son spoke at RealTime Philadelphia. FC used to sell the tape of this - I can no longer find it on the website. It was a realistic and sometimes chilling update of the position in 2001. Try and locate a copy.
