Green and Gold
On Friday, I blogged about the celebrity initiative to be more environmentally conscious (or maybe just be part of the trend) by arriving at the Academy Awards via a fuel-efficient vehicle. But apparently that wasn't the only way the noms showed their support for the green movement.
Best Actor Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker was sporting a bracelet made by Simmons Jewelery Company from their Green Initiative Collection. The bracelet; made of stainless steel, green rubber, and diamonds; was worn by Whitaker to show support for the The Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF). About 25% of sales of the Green Initiative Collection go to the DEF to fund educational programs in Africa.
Heard of any other cool green initiatives celebs were supporting on the big night?

TerraPass claim that the celebrities this year, instead of getting a goodie bag, received a glass sculpture and 100,000lbs of CO2 reductions from TerraPass.
Their website also suggests that most celebs have TerraPasses.
Plus I understand that Al Gore's film did well, which shows that the votes aren't always stacked against him.
ok, Al Gore:- his Tennessee 'cottage' uses 20 times the electricity that the average American consumes and that's just ONE of the four or five mansions he has around the country.
Two "stacked," if I hear that crap again, I'm going to vomit. The Electoral College? Gotta problem, great, tear it down, you hammerheads. Then the election is decided by Boston, New York, Phila, Washington, Baltomore, Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas. The rest of you punks further west and south can forget the polls, the big cities will sink the winner with out your "vote" thank you very much.
What the H*$* did you think the Electoral College was for??? I know,Iknow, lets let Matt Damon, or some other young handsome (dumb) actor run the place. Won't that be cool. Damon apparently didn't know our troops in Iraq were part of an all VOLUNTARY ARMY.

do you only print opinions concommitant to your own point of view?
It's refreshing to see such a worthwhile and far-reaching initiative as jewelry sales to promote a greener earth. Funny, though, that the Simmons Jewelry Company chose steel and rubber as the main materials for the bracelet. Last time I checked, those require significant energy to produce. Maybe the mills and factories Simmons sources from all run on wind power.
And, Roger, you're the main reason I keep coming back to read this blog. Fabulous!

VIVO LIFE, the soap company, makes a fantastic eco friendly green soap. It has been popping up everywhere in Hollywood. I wouldn't be surprised to see a celebrity endorsement sometime soon.
I think the idea of a 25% return on proceeds towards egducation in Africa is commendable and productive. Went to check out the company web site and I was sorry to find out it was another "celebrity company" ala Puff Daddy etc... Russel Simmons Jewelry... sigh
