Stress Much?
Probably because I'm running late today, my stress level is a little higher than usual. So it was neat to receive a news release from the Hoeffner PR Group offering 10 tips to ward off stress at the office. To whit:
- Organize
- Plan
- Prioritize
- Take mood breaks
- Decide
- Delegate
- Clear your desk
- Get it together
- Divide and conquer
- Eliminate interruptions
When you start to feel stressed, what do you do? Does stress have a positive or negative impact on your work?

Well, I'm a French reader and we have something called RTT here. I guess it won't make the French popular (if needed...) but basically, it allows most executives to take some day off, usually for a three day weekend. It may sound counterproductive at first but I realized it allows people to cool down more often and force to organize themselves and gain efficiency (and avoid the typical "I'll do that on friday night 9PM" motto)
A nice pot of Lemon tea, phone off the hook, actually making those important decisions that always seem to be put off, and perhaps most importantly making sure you take time to laugh and chat about non-work things with colleagues

How do I destress? It is the panic technique of taking time out and organising absolutely everything that irritates me.
For example, if I got cranky at not finding a blue pen then I will buy 10 blue pens. If I couldn't do financial projection then I will setup a template and make it as organised as possible.
I can't recommend this method because it is a knee-jerk reaction. I rarely get the root cause of my stress.
you can also use NLP or guided imagery for 1 or 2 minutes during your work day.
1. Close your eyes.
2. Mentally, close your ears too.
3. take deep breaths.
4. During the time.. pay attention to - just the breath.
5. Do it 10 times.. (will require a bit of patience and practice).
6. Open the eyes, go to the wash room, drink a BIG glass of water.
7. Remove the papers to the side,
8.. there you are..
9.. get back to work..... you may be next to tbe offshored.
