Changing the World of Senior Care
I was in Orlando yesterday speaking to the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives and got out of Florida just ahead of the hurricane. (Kind of a metaphor for my life, now that I think about it.) Be that as it may...
Since The Radical Leap came out in April, I've received quite a few very inspiring (and, frankly, gratifying) emails from folks who read the book and felt compelled to share their experiences and stories with me. As a result, I've started corresponding with Stan Hindmarsh, CEO of Hallmark Assisted Living in Canada.
In a phone conversation, Stan told me, "for most people the age of our residents, the biggest challenge they have in life is to make it through the day without falling down...not here." Stan and his colleagues at Hallmark are making the lives of their residents more meaningful by giving them opportunities to take on challenges and to change the world. Several have taken trips to Guatemala to do service work. I hope I'll have the gumption to do that when I'm 91 years old!

Remarkable work they're doing at Hallmark. The Guatamala trip pictures did my heart good. It's great to know that with all the hurt in the world right now some people are daring and caring. Thanks for sharing that Steve.
I got your book because I'm the coordinator of the Sacramento, California Company of Friends. In my corporate life I'm in an organization that is going through some painful changes. Yet several of us managers decided to start what we call The Leadership Network. We meet once a month and this month I'll be talking about your book. I sent a teaser email - cause I didn't want to give away the nuggets of the story - and offered to order the book for anyone who wanted to read it before the meeting. Many people asked me "What's an OS!M?" I told them they should read/buy the book or come and hear me talk about it to find out. I gotta say your book's a whole new spin on leadership that's relevant for what we're experiencing and I think it could help.
